Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar – Farmers in Teknaf upazila are enjoying a large harvest of betel nuts this season, thanks to favorable weather and strong market demand. The combination of high yields and good prices has left local growers pleased and optimistic about the crop’s future potential.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, commercial betel nut cultivation is highest in Sabrang and Baharchhara unions among the six unions of Teknaf. The betel nuts from these coastal areas are prized by wholesalers across the country for their large size and distinctive taste.
“This year, betel nut has been cultivated on about 1,260 hectares of land in the upazila,” said Teknaf Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Humayun Kabir. “To ensure a successful harvest, the government has provided farmers with technical advice, inputs, and other necessary support.”
Local farmers reported that timely rains, favorable weather, and fewer pest attacks contributed to the excellent yield this year. Growers express their motivation to expand cultivation next season due to the crop’s high market prices.
