Cox’s Bazar’s Burmese markets are a haven for pickle lovers, offering a colourful array of flavours that have earned them the title of the “Kingdom of Pickles” among tourists. Rows of shops in these markets display nearly 35 varieties of pickles, including mango, tamarind, hog plum, jujube, olive, Indian gooseberry, elephant apple, green chillies, and garlic.

Among the top attractions are specialities like olive pickles, sweet tamarind, gooseberry roshogolla, Bombay chilli pickles, and satkara pickles—a treat for every palate.

Ebad Ullah, owner of Rimach Wholesale Pickle Shop in Rukia Burmese Market, said, “I stock 35 types of pickles in my shop. During the peak tourist season, sales reach 8 to 9 million taka.” Sajedul Kader Rukun, owner of Faria Burmese Pickle Shop, added, “Our business relies heavily on tourists. When the flow of visitors is low, sales drop significantly.”

With nearly 300 shops, the Burmese markets in Cox’s Bazar offer more than just a shopping experience—they provide a unique taste of local culture. For many, a trip to Cox’s Bazar feels incomplete without exploring the vibrant Burmese markets and savouring their delightful pickles.
