A discussion was held at Cox’s Bazar International University (CBIU) on Tuesday (March 25) to commemorate the victims of the infamous “Black Night” of March 25, 1971. The event took place at the university auditorium, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the brutal crackdown by the Pakistani military.
Speaking at the event, CBIU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Touhid Hossain Chowdhury, highlighted how the Pakistani forces launched a ruthless genocide on March 25 in an attempt to crush the Bengali people’s aspiration for independence. He emphasized that Bangladesh ultimately emerged victorious after nine months of armed struggle, leading to its liberation. He expressed hope for a peaceful world and remarked, “May no other March 25 occur in human history.”
Acting Registrar Rajidul Haque moderated the discussion. Dean Professor Kazi Mostain Billah shared insights into the horrific events of the genocide, offering historical context and firsthand accounts.
Among other speakers were Dr. Mohammad Ataullah Khaled, Chairman of the Islamic Studies Department; Khan Habiba Mostarin, Chairman of the Law Department; Tamanna Nowreen Azam, Chairman of the English Department; and Mizanur Rahman, Coordinator of the BHTM program. Faculty members, administrative officials, and students also attended the commemoration event.
