Today (November 22), a special cleanliness drive was organized to make Cox’s Bazar cleaner and more tourist-friendly. The International Labour Organization (ILO) and BD Clean implemented the initiative with support from the Enroute Foundation.
The activity involved 20 volunteers who collected discarded coconut husks, shells, and other waste from the surroundings of Kolatoli Beach. This initiative aimed to keep the area clean and raise public awareness about contributing to local tourism development.
Present at the event were Maksudul Haque, Project Coordinator of the ILO-ISEC Tourism Partnership Project; Zubair Ibn Hasanat Avi, Head of Programs of the Enroute Foundation; and Mohammad Sayed Karim, representative of BD Clean Cox’s Bazar. Sub-Inspector Dipan Kanti Das of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police also addressed the gathering.
Enroute Foundation has taken steps to produce coco peat from coconut husks as part of the initiative to contribute to economic development through recycling.
Rooftop gardening and tree plantation activities widely use cocopeat, an eco-friendly and efficient material. Through such initiatives, the Enroute Foundation plays a vital role in environmental conservation, greening efforts, and local economic development.
Maksudul Haque, Project Coordinator of the ILO-ISEC project, stated, “Through this initiative, local people can learn about the process of producing new products from recyclable materials. Additionally, they can participate in similar activities to become economically self-reliant.”
Sub-Inspector Dipan Kanti Das of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police emphasized the importance of maintaining and protecting the city’s cleanliness.
He urged residents and tourists to take a more conscious and active role in keeping Cox’s Bazar a clean and attractive tourist destination.
Through such activities, ILO and its partner organizations are working towards transforming Cox’s Bazar into a cleaner, environmentally friendly, and more appealing destination for tourists.
