In a joint operation, the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 100,000 yaba pills and arrested five drug traffickers near Shah Porir Island in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The Coast Guard East Zone’s BCG Outpost Shah Porir and RAB-15 CPC-1 conducted the operation on Tuesday (March 25) at 2 PM.
Confirming the incident, Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque stated that acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted a wooden engine-run boat entering Bangladesh from Myanmar. A search of the vessel led to the recovery of 100,000 yaba pills and the arrest of five individuals involved in the trafficking operation.
The detainees have been identified as Enayet Ullah (41), Nur Alam (38), Md. Tuha (25), Aziz Ullah (22), and Abdul Hamid (25). All of them are reportedly residents of the Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf.
Authorities have stated that legal proceedings against the arrested traffickers are underway.
