Coastal Cleanup Day was celebrated with a special event at Nazirartek of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday (September 22).
Organized by the USAID EcoFish II Project, the day aimed to promote marine biodiversity conservation and support livelihoods dependent on the sea.
Tarapada Chauhan, senior fisheries officer, attended the event.
The initiative deployed 140 “Blue Guards” (local volunteers) in ten locations, including Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ukhiya, Teknaf, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Kalapara, and Charfassion.
These volunteers conduct beach cleanups twice a month, removing plastic, discarded fishing nets, and other harmful waste from the shoreline. They also collect trash from returning fishing boats.
The Coastal Cleanup Day began with a rally, raising awareness about the importance of keeping the coastline clean.
