The Buddhist community in Cox’s Bazar is celebrating one of its most significant religious festivals, Probarona Purnima, with deep spiritual devotion and festive enthusiasm. The occasion is being observed in at least 30 Buddhist villages across the district, including Ramu, the ancient center of Buddhist heritage.
From early morning, rituals such as Buddha Puja, Ashtashil observance, Maha Sangha Dana (mass offering to monks), and Dharma discussions were held at major temples, including Aggameda Khyang in Cox’s Bazar town, Rangkut Banashram Buddhist Monastery, Central Seema Mahavihar, and Ramu Maitri Vihar.
In the evening, special prayers will be offered seeking peace, happiness, and prosperity for all living beings. To mark the occasion, colorful sky lantern festivals will light up monasteries across the district.
Tomorrow afternoon, devotees in Ramu will celebrate the traditional Kalpa Ship Floating Festival on the Bakkhali River, a centuries-old ritual symbolizing the release of worldly sorrows.
This year’s Probarona celebrations have also carried a call for global peace, urging an end to ongoing wars, including the conflict in Palestine.
