The world’s longest sea beach, Cox’s Bazar, is now largely deserted, with only a handful of tourists visiting. From Kolatoli to Laboni Point, a five-kilometer stretch of the beach remains mostly empty. Hotel owners report that more than 500 hotels, motels, and guesthouses are seeing extremely low occupancy as visitors decline due to Ramadan. Tourism officials anticipate that this trend will persist throughout the holy month.
Many hotel and motel owners have introduced special discounts on room rentals in an effort to attract visitors despite the slowdown.
A visit to key beach points such as Laboni, Kolatoli, and Sugandha confirms the lack of activity. Most hotels and motels remain unoccupied. However, some high-end hotels have attracted a few guests by offering significant discounts.
Mohammad Osman, a senior lifeguard at Sea Safe Lifeguard, told Cox’s Bazar Life, “The number of tourists has drastically decreased due to Ramadan. However, we expect the crowds to return once the month is over. In the meantime, we are continuing to ensure the safety of the few visitors who are here.”
