On International Women’s Day, the Cox’s Bazar Community Alliance has issued a statement calling for equal rights and fair wages for marginalized female workers in the district.
With this year’s theme, “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment: Advancing Women and Girls,” the organization emphasized the need to recognize women’s contributions to society and the family while ensuring their rightful wages and protections in the workforce.
According to the alliance, approximately 18,000 women workers in the dried fish industry at Nazirartek, one of the country’s most extensive drying hubs, continue to face wage discrimination. Despite performing the same tasks as men, they receive nearly half the wages. Similarly, thousands of women employed in the pearl and salt industries are also deprived of fair pay.
On this significant day, the Cox’s Bazar Community Alliance has reiterated its demand for wage parity and equal labor rights for female workers. The organization also extended its respect and congratulations to women across all sectors of society.
