To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Cox’s Bazar Government High School, the institution’s alumni association, Kosubi Ex-Students Council, has been organizing year-long programs. As part of these festivities, they have planned a special event titled ‘Kosubian Iftar.’
This initiative will bring 150 orphaned and underprivileged children together to share an iftar meal with former students. The event will also carry a message of global solidarity, with international representatives invited to express support for Palestine under the theme ‘Solidarity for Palestine.’ An academic discussion titled ‘Islamic Light Along the Bay of Bengal: 150 Years of Tradition, Change, and Progress’ will feature Islamic scholars and historians.
Educationist Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, the convener of the alumni association, described the iftar as a “pre-rehearsal for the grand program” planned for the school’s milestone anniversary. Principal Omar Faruq, from the class of 1969, emphasized how such events strengthen bonds across generations.
Poet and banker Zainal Abedin Mukul, a 1975 alumnus, praised the initiative, stating, “Sharing iftar with 150 underprivileged children is truly commendable.” Meanwhile, Ahsan Mahmud, a banker from the class of 1995, believes the event will further unite former students.
Previously, the Kosubi Ex-Students Council has led various social initiatives, including winter clothing drives, a calligraphy competition, and special International Mother Language Day programs. Their humanitarian efforts include a flood relief fund that contributes Tk9.5 lakh to disaster victims.
This latest initiative adds another meaningful chapter to their long-standing commitment to community service.
