With the theme “Accept Neurodiversity, Build an Inclusive Society”, Cox’s Bazar observed the 18th World Autism Awareness Day through a series of meaningful activities.

The District Administration and Department of Social Services organized the day’s events, which included a drawing competition, a rally, a discussion session, and the distribution of assistive materials and prizes.

Held at the premises of Arunoday School on Tuesday morning, the program was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nizam Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest.

In his speech, the ADC highlighted the government’s ongoing initiatives for persons with special needs, stating, “Today, children and individuals with special needs are no longer left behind. Through various government projects, they are progressing alongside the mainstream population. The district administration remains committed to supporting their overall development.”

The discussion session, chaired by District Social Services Office Deputy Director Hasan Masud, featured key speakers including Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammadul Haque, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department Moazzem Hossain, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Rifat Hossain, District Children Affairs Officer Ahsanul Haque, Assistant Director of Social Services Shafiuddin Safi, Deputy Project Director of the Integrated Child Rehabilitation Center Jesmin Akter, and Shah Jalal, Head Teacher of Arunoday School.

Dr. Saiduzzaman Majumder, Consultant of the Disability Services and Assistance Center, conducted the event. Assistant Director of Social Services Md. Abdul Awal delivered the welcome address.

The event included officials from various government and non-government agencies, individuals with special needs, and their guardians.

Later, the drawing competition winners—children with special needs—were awarded prizes. In addition, the Disability Services and Assistance Center distributed 30 wheelchairs, two walkers, five tricycles, three toilet chairs, and two smart white canes to 30 individuals with special needs.
