The Cox’s Bazar Press Club and the Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union on Tuesday organised a Quran completion (Khatm-e-Quran), discussion and prayer programme in memory of those who lost their lives during the July Mass Uprising, as part of the observance of July Mass Uprising Day 2026.
The programme, held at the Cox’s Bazar Press Club, was the fifth event of a week-long series jointly organised by the two organisations.
District Council Administrator ATM Nurul Bashar Chowdhury attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Addressing the programme, he said that the 2024 mass uprising had brought change through the sacrifices made by students and the public.
The discussion was chaired by Cox’s Bazar Press Club president Mahbubur Rahman. The welcome address was delivered by the club’s general secretary and convener of the seven-day programme, Mumtaz Uddin Bahari.
Special guests included Cox’s Bazar district NCP convener Professor Akhtarul Alam and founding member of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club SM Aminul Haque Chowdhury.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Humayun Sikder, a member of the Press Club and the programme implementation committee.
Moderated by the club’s literary and cultural affairs secretary and member secretary of the week-long programme, Hasanur Rashid, the discussion was also addressed by Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union president Nurul Islam Helaly, The Daily Inqilab special correspondent Shamsul Haque Sharek, senior Press Club member Advocate Muhammad Abu Siddique Osmani, sports secretary MR Mahbub, Press Club member Imam Khair and Journalists’ Union joint general secretary Saiyad Alam.
Several participants in the July 2024 movement, including Shahidul Wahed Shahed, Muhammad Khalid Bin Saeed, Sahab Uddin, Abdul Momen Khan, Arian Khan Farabi, Saeed Swadhin and Fahmida Hasan Heba, also shared their experiences during the discussion.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes among the winners of the graffiti drawing and poetry recitation competitions organised as part of the July Mass Uprising Day observance.
