Government and most of the private employees in Bangladesh are set to enjoy a long three-day weekend, thanks to the upcoming May Day (1st May), also known as International Workers’ Day.
According to the 2025 official holiday calendar, 1st May, which falls on a Thursday, will be a general holiday in observance of the day. This will be followed by the weekend on Friday and Saturday, resulting in a continuous three-day break from 1st to 3rd May.
May Day, celebrated globally, is a day dedicated to the international labor movement. On this day, workers and labor organizations around the world participate in parades and processions to honor the history and contributions of the labor movement. In nearly 80 countries, including Bangladesh, May 1st is observed as a national holiday.
Meanwhile, with the approaching long holiday, most hotels and resorts in Cox’s Bazar are already nearing full capacity due to early bookings. Authorities have reported that there is particularly high demand for hotels and resorts with swimming pools, given the ongoing summer season.
Rana Karmakar, the manager of Mermaid Beach Resort, told Cox’s Bazar Life that Mermaid is already fully booked, and other hotels and resorts are facing similar situations.
