Continuous rainfall persisted in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday, with the district recording 69 millimetres of rain in the 24 hours until 6:00 am, while the Bangladesh Meteorological Department warned that moderate to heavy rainfall could continue over the next few days.
Assistant Meteorologist Md Abdul Hannan of the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office said the active monsoon was likely to bring further moderate to heavy rain to Cox’s Bazar and other coastal areas.
He said Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 remained in force at Cox’s Bazar seaport as the Bay of Bengal remained rough.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating at sea have been advised to stay close to the coast and move cautiously, while tourists and local residents have been discouraged from entering the rough sea unnecessarily.
The prolonged rain has already caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the district, leading to public inconvenience.
Officials also urged people living in hilly areas to remain alert to the risk of landslides as rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
