Destination-based cruise ships have a huge business potential in the tourism sector of Cox’s Bazar, said Commodore Mohammad Nurul Absar, Chairman of Cox’s Bazar Development Authority.
He also said that the ship could be launched up to Maheshkhali and later expanded to other locations including St Martin and Kuakata.
He was speaking at the launching event ‘Pulse’ organized jointly by SwissContact and Indepth at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar today (September 10) afternoon.
“The tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar have nothing to see except the beach. We Cox’s are also preparing a master plan in consultation with experts regarding this,” he added.
He also said Cox’s Bazar will be developed into a major tourist zone, making the region more attractive in line with global standards.
“We will construct new facilities and introduce a cable car service from Cox’s Bazar to Maheshkhali and Teknaf to attract more tourists,” he added.
He also said that foreign tourists rarely visit Cox’s Bazar because there is no facility for currency exchange. They will also work to establish an electronic hub.
