During a one-on-one meeting with Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain, Adviser on Religious Affairs to the interim government, Cox’s Bazar city Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdullah Al Faruq formally demanded that the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway be upgraded and expanded into a six-lane route.
In response, the Religious Affairs Adviser assured, “I have already discussed the matter with the Adviser on Roads and Bridges, Mr. Fauzul Kabir. JICA has pledged funding support for the construction of this road. I will raise the issue before the Honourable Chief Adviser and the Cabinet.”
The meeting occurred on Friday, April 18, when Dr. Khalid Hossain arrived in Cox’s Bazar and was received at the airport by Deputy Commissioner Salah Uddin. Sadek Ahmed, Joint Secretary and Personal Secretary to the Religious Affairs Adviser, Superintendent of Police Saif Uddin Shaheen, politician and social activist Abdullah Al Faruq, and several other professionals and community leaders were also present.
During the discussion, Abdullah Al Faruq reiterated the urgency of expanding the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway to six lanes to support regional connectivity and economic growth.
