A migration dialogue was held in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar, to ensure safe migration for expatriate remittance warriors. The event, “The Role of Media in Protecting the Rights of Migrant Workers,” occurred at 2:00 PM on Wednesday (March 12) in the Pekua Upazila Hall Room.
Parvez Siddiqui, Executive Director of Films for Peace Foundation, presided over the discussion, and Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Moinul Hossain Chowdhury attended as the chief guest.
Among the distinguished speakers were Police Inspector (Investigation) Durjoy Biswas and Assistant Director of the District Employment and Manpower Office, Liton Kanti Chowdhury.
Journalists from Pekua and officials from relevant authorities participated in the dialogue. At the beginning of the session, Parvez Siddiqui outlined the foundation’s upcoming initiatives to support expatriates from Pekua.
He highlighted key areas such as providing information and assistance to migrant workers, facilitating passport and visa processing, preventing excessive fees, eliminating unnecessary hurdles in the migration process, enhancing skill development, ensuring proper documentation, and promoting legal migration channels.
Moreover, he emphasized the importance of educating workers on workplace etiquette and regulations abroad and raising awareness about local intermediaries and authorized agents to prevent exploitation.
