A meeting focusing on crop protection for farmers during disaster periods was held in Ukhiya to safeguard livelihoods against natural calamities.
The Upazila Disaster Management Committee organized today’s session with the World Food Programme (WFP) at the Upazila Parishad Hall.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jarine Tasnim Tasin presided over the meeting.
The session was attended by the Upazila Agriculture Officer, Upazila Fisheries Officer, Officer-in-Charge of the local police station, Upazila Social Services Officer, local elected representatives, and other relevant officials.
During the meeting, it was decided to include marginal farmers, small-scale business owners, and operators of fisheries and poultry farms under climate risk insurance to compensate for potential financial losses caused by natural disasters.
Officials also reported that 6,600 farming families in the Upazila have already been brought under this program, providing them with an added layer of financial security against climate-related risks.
