The Election Commission (EC) has designated 74 upazilas, including Moheshkhali and Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar, as remote areas based on their transportation infrastructure. Officials assigned to these regions will receive 1.5 times the standard allowance.
EC officials confirmed that the decision was made in a recent meeting. A formal letter, signed by ASM Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing, has already been sent to the relevant offices.
The decision was taken after discussions on allowances for personnel involved in the ongoing voter list update process in these remote locations. Additionally, the EC has decided in principle to categorize remote areas based on communication infrastructure, geographical challenges, and accessibility—particularly in hilly, haor, island, and lowland regions.
