A district-level final debate competition on “Prevention or Suppression: Which is the More Effective Way to Eliminate Corruption” was held in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday. 

The event was organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and implemented by the District Corruption Prevention Committee (DUPROK), with support from the Cox’s Bazar District Administration.

The competition took place at the Public Library auditorium, where Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy School and College presented their arguments in favor of the motion. In contrast, Cox’s Bazar Model High School took the opposing side.

After an engaging debate, Cox’s Bazar Model High School was declared the champion, while Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy School and College became the runner-up. 

Sadia Rahman Ibnat, team leader of the proposition side, was named Best Speaker.

District Commissioner Md. A. Mannan attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. 

In his speech, he emphasized that corruption is a grave social crime, and awareness must begin within families and communities. 

He also urged the younger generation to stand firm against corruption and become responsible citizens.

The program was presided over by Professor Mohammad Sanaullah, president of the district DUPROK. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sajib, ACC Deputy Director Md. Mostafizur Rahman, DUPROK Vice President Jasim Uddin Bakul, and General Secretary Anup Barua Opu also spoke at the event.

Former District Education Officer, Md. Nasir Uddin served as the moderator of the debate. 

Officials from various government and private institutions, members of the judging panel, as well as teachers and students from different schools, attended the event.

At the end of the program, winners of essay writing and art competitions on anti-corruption themes were also awarded.
