Any negligence in the judicial proceedings of the July-August killings will once again see students and the public take to the streets, just as they did for Abu Sayeed and Mir Mughda, warned Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, Chief Executive of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation.
He made this statement on Thursday afternoon at a financial aid distribution event organized by the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, with support from the Cox’s Bazar District Administration. The “Bangladesh Stands with the Injured Warriors” event was held at the Cox’s Bazar Cultural Center.
At the event, the family of Nurul Amin, a student leader from Eidgaon’s Purba Gojaliya area who was martyred during the movement, received Tk 5 lakh. In comparison, 47 injured fighters from the district were each provided with Tk 1 lakh.
Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs and the injured fighters can never be fully repaid, stating, “Not everyone has the courage to make sacrifices for their country. The July Martyrs Memorial Foundation will always stand by them.”
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin acknowledged the struggles faced by the affected families, saying, “Many of the wounded and the families of the martyrs are living in extreme hardship. The administration has provided support within its capacity, including distributing Ramadan gifts and financial aid.”
The event began with a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs and injured individuals.
According to officials from the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, the July-August movement in Cox’s Bazar resulted in four martyrs and 82 injuries. Among them, the documents of 62 injured individuals have been verified, and financial aid was provided to 48 victims, including one martyr’s family, at this event.
Previously, three other martyr families in the district had each received Tk 5 lakh in financial assistance.
