A fire broke out at Noor Super Shop in the Ramu Bypass area of Cox’s Bazar on Friday morning, causing an estimated Tk 300,000 in damage.
The fire started at around 10:00am. Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene after receiving the alert and brought the blaze under control.
An initial assessment suggested that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. However, the exact cause had not been confirmed in the information provided.
Abdul Quader Chowdhury, station officer of Ramu Fire Service, said firefighters reached the scene promptly after receiving the report and managed to contain the fire.
Residents said shopkeepers from nearby businesses and passers-by gathered after smoke was seen coming from the premises. Some people tried to extinguish the fire with water before the Fire Service arrived.
Abdul Qayyum, a resident, said he and several others moved towards the shop after noticing the smoke and helped fight the fire.
“We saw the smoke, and a few of us went forward. We helped put out the fire. Later, the Fire Service personnel arrived and brought it fully under control,” he said.
Residents said the firefighters’ quick response prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring shops.
The estimated loss from the incident was around Tk 300,000, according to the initial information. No further details about injuries or damage to adjacent businesses were provided.
The incident highlights the risks of electrical faults in commercial premises, where a fire can quickly spread to nearby establishments. Prompt intervention by local people and emergency responders helped contain the blaze at Noor Super Shop.
The relevant authorities would need to confirm the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
