A still silence hangs over the Cox’s Bazar Fish Landing Center, also known as Fishery Ghat. The usually bustling hub, filled with the sounds of daily trade, has quieted down due to a 22-day sea fishing ban.
A few fishermen can be seen preparing their nets, readying themselves for the return to the waves.
The fishing ban, which started at midnight on October 13, aims to protect Mother Hilsa’s spawning season.
The fishermen will depart for the sea at midnight on November 3, marking the end of this restriction.
Many will return within a week, or sometimes even sooner, with their trawlers full of fresh catch, marking the resumption of the coastal community’s vibrant livelihood.
