Cox’s Bazar, August 17, 2024: Fishermen in Cox’s Bazar are returning to the ghat with various types of marine fish, including hilsa, despite rough seas caused by low pressure. Hilsa is being sold at high prices in the city’s Fisherighat wholesale fish market, with trucks transporting the prized catch to markets across the country, including Dhaka.Fishermen report that rough sea conditions have prevented smaller boats from reaching the 70-90 km depth needed for hilsa fishing. Local authorities have issued a warning signal No. 3 along the Cox’s Bazar coast, advising fishing boats and trawlers to stay close to shore until further notice. Although the 65-day fishing ban ended on July 23, many fishermen have been unable to venture out due to the challenging conditions. On Friday, more than 35 trawlers returned to the ghat with sea fish, including large quantities of hilsa. At the fish landing center, thousands of hilsa were seen in several large piles, ready for sale
