The start of a new tidal surge, locally known as Jo, has brought fresh hope to the fishermen of Cox’s Bazar.

During this time, rising sea levels encourage fish from the deep ocean to travel closer to the coast, offering a prime opportunity for an abundant catch.

A visit to the bustling Majhir Ghat, the largest fishing harbor in Cox’s Bazar, revealed a scene of determined teamwork.

Groups of 40 to 50 fishermen were seen maneuvering their fishing trawlers into the water by attaching wheels beneath them and pushing them from the shoreline.

“I own two trawlers. During the last tidal surge, we had a fantastic catch. After covering all expenses, I earned a profit of four lakh takas from both trawlers,” trawler owner Chhoton told Cox’s Bazar Life.
