The Cox’s Bazar district administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the devastating fire at Tuptup Resto and Resort beside Patwartek beach in Inani, Ukhiya. The committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Tasnim Jahan will lead the committee, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Mannan told journalists.

Representatives from the Fire Service, Ukhiya upazila administration and police will be included. The investigation will examine how the fire started, why it spread so quickly, and other factors linked to the incident.

The fire broke out at around 7:30am on Saturday at the wooden resort beside Marine Drive. The flames spread rapidly, causing multiple deaths. The Fire Service reported that 10 bodies had been recovered.

Several victims have been identified, while DNA testing will be conducted to establish the identities of the remaining victims, the deputy commissioner said.

He added that arrangements were being made to send three injured people to Dhaka by air for advanced medical treatment.

Syed Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Cox’s Bazar Fire Service, said the investigation could examine whether the resort lacked adequate fire safety measures or essential equipment.

However, he said the actual cause of the fire could not be confirmed until the investigation was completed.
