To mark the Great Independence and National Day, the Cox’s Bazar district administration honored valiant freedom fighters and family members of martyrs in a special reception ceremony. The event took place on Wednesday (March 26) at the Biam Foundation auditorium in the town.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin presided over the ceremony, emphasizing the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. “It is because of their supreme sacrifices that we have an independent Bangladesh today. A prosperous and just nation can be built by combining the wisdom of our elders, the creativity of the youth, and the strength of our younger generation,” he said.

Among the distinguished speakers at the event were Superintendent of Police Md. Saifuddin Shaheen, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Mohammad Al Maruf, veteran freedom fighter Fazlul Qader Chowdhury, Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman, and Shahidul Wahid Sahed, the district convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

As part of the reception, 100 freedom fighters and members of martyr families received Eid gifts. Additionally, 50 freedom fighters were awarded a token honorarium of Tk 5,000 each, amounting to Tk 500,000.

Special meals and iftar were served at district hospitals, prisons, government childcare facilities, and orphanages to commemorate the occasion.
