For many, fried snacks are an essential part of iftar. After a long day of fasting, the appetite is naturally drawn toward various flavorful, crispy delights. Among the most popular iftar items are peyaaju (lentil fritters), beguni (battered eggplant fritters), chhola (spiced chickpeas), chop (vegetable or meat croquettes), and an array of mouthwatering kebabs.
Though these fried treats don’t receive the same spotlight throughout the year, they take center stage in every Bangladeshi household during Ramadan. Not only at home, but food stalls and restaurants also see a surge in demand for these savory iftar specials.
While such indulgence continues throughout Ramadan, consuming these deep-fried treats regularly at other times of the year is not a common practice.
