A 62-foot-tall giant plastic robot sculpture built entirely from nearly ten metric tonnes of discarded marine plastic has been unveiled at Sugandha Sea-Gull Point in Cox’s Bazar. This massive sculpture aims to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution.
The initiative, led by the Cox’s Bazar District Administration and Bidyananda Foundation, was inaugurated by District Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin. “This plastic monster represents the environmental threat we face. It will inspire greater awareness and action,” he remarked during the unveiling.
Designed by artists from Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, the project highlights the critical need for recycling and sustainable practices. Bidyananda Foundation’s Jamal Uddin shared that over 500 metric tonnes of plastic have been recycled across the country as part of the initiative.
The “Robot Monster” will be open to visitors during the upcoming tourist season as a stark reminder of the impact of plastic waste on our planet.
