The government is working to further develop Cox’s Bazar’s tourism industry to international standards and fully harness its vast tourism potential to boost the national economy, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Friday.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority’s (CoxDA) Residential Flat Development Project-1 as the chief guest at a ceremony held at 11:00 am.
The minister said Bangladesh could generate substantial revenue by effectively using its marine resources and seaports.
“The government is moving forward with several initiatives to harness the country’s blue economy potential,” he said.
He also said the government was planning to establish a marine university in Cox’s Bazar to expand opportunities for higher education and marine research.
“The initiative will open a new horizon for marine education, scientific research and the development of skilled human resources in the maritime sector,” he added.
CoxDA Chairman Engineer Mohammad Jasim Uddin attended the programme as the special guest.
Senior officials of the Cox’s Bazar district administration, CoxDA and representatives of various government agencies were also present at the event.
