The Cox’s Bazar Industry and Trade Fair began on Monday (November 3) with a colorful inauguration ceremony at the Tourism Golf Ground adjacent to the Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium.
The fair was inaugurated by Rafiqul Huda Chowdhury, convener of Cox’s Bazar Municipality BNP; Momtaz Uddin Bahari, general secretary of Cox’s Bazar Press Club; and Nurul Islam Helali, president of the Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union, by cutting a ribbon and releasing balloons into the evening sky.
During the opening ceremony, the guests expressed their belief that this fair will significantly boost the tourism industry and sustain the local economy. Visitors and tourists have nothing to worry about regarding security, as law enforcement agencies will remain on duty around the clock.”
Also present at the event were Moktar Ahmed, assistant organizing secretary of the district BNP; Advocate Syed Ahmed Uzzal, president of the district Jubo Dal; SM Zafar, general secretary of the Journalists’ Union Cox’s Bazar; and the fair’s organizing committee chairman, Sanauallah Abu, and member secretary, Saiful Islam Liton, among others.
Following the inauguration, guests visited various stalls at the fair.
This year’s fair features several new attractions and extensive security measures. The entire venue is under 24-hour CCTV surveillance. The event is jointly organized by the Freedom Fighters’ Welfare Council, Cox’s Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union.
A visit to the site revealed that months of preparation have brought the venue to its final stage. A grand, aesthetically designed gate welcomes visitors at the entrance. This year’s fair includes 150 stalls from small and cottage industries, along with 22 pavilions from renowned national brands. These include premier, general, and mini pavilions, children’s amusement rides, and food stalls — all promising a lively atmosphere for visitors.
According to Chairman Sanauallah Abu and Member Secretary Saiful Islam Liton, this year’s fair brings several unique additions. Memorial plaques honoring Cox’s Bazar’s martyrs of the July Uprising have been placed around the venue. New rides such as Twist, Limbo Bamboo, Digital Ferris Wheel, Electric Boats, Water Balls, Bumper Cars, Digital Trains, Jumping Slippers, and Car Racing have been installed for children’s entertainment.
Major brands such as RFL, Vision, Walker, KIAM, Italiano, Comfy, Home Textile, and Irani Gold are participating this year. Visitors can buy everything from quality fabrics to comfortable Walker shoes. The Marine City Mega Mart pavilion offers a wide range of daily essentials, while the online-based fashion brand Fashion Zone has opened a stall featuring women’s cosmetics and apparel at affordable prices.
Food lovers will also find something special — doi fuchka is one of the fair’s signature attractions this year. The famous Ruhani Achar from Sylhet has already become a crowd favorite for its distinctive flavor and aroma.
In addition, there will be live magic shows, and temporary prayer and washroom facilities have been set up for visitors’ convenience.
