Another 544 baby Olive Ridley turtles, hatched at the Marine Park Hatchery on Saint Martin’s Island, have been released into the Bay of Bengal.
The release occurred on Saturday at Dimas Paradise Point on the island’s northern beach. Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md. Zia Uddin, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salah Uddin, and other officials attended the event.
The Divisional Commissioner stated, “Efforts are underway to establish Saint Martin’s as a safe breeding and habitat zone for turtles and other marine life.”
Between November 1, 2024, and March 3, 2025, two designated egg collectors gathered and preserved 3,184 eggs from 26 mother turtles. As of yesterday, 1,246 baby turtles have been successfully hatched and released into the sea in multiple phases.
