The morning’s brief spell of rain brought a hint of coolness, but it didn’t last long. By midday, the sun blazed over Cox’s Bazar, bringing sweltering heat that left both locals and tourists gasping for relief. According to the local weather office, today’s temperature in Cox’s Bazar was slightly above average.

In response to the intense heat, people have flocked to cooling refreshments. Across the city, sherbet stalls have sprung up at almost every street corner. Lemon, wood apple, tamarind, watermelon, and mango juices are popular drinks. By late afternoon, these stalls witness a surge in customers.

Local vendors say business is booming. “As the temperature rises, so does our sales,” said one vendor. “Where we used to sell around 50–60 glasses a day, now it’s well over 100.”

Tourists also echoed the sentiment, describing a chilled glass of sherbet in the heat as “a heavenly relief.”

Health experts advise people to stay hydrated and consume plenty of fruits to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses during this period of extreme weather.
