Heavy rain swept across Cox’s Bazar on Sunday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief after several days of hot and humid weather.
The sky remained overcast from the morning, with light rain beginning after noon before intensifying into a downpour at around 3:00pm. The sudden downpour drenched the town, and commuters navigated it with umbrellas despite the disruption to their daily activities.
Resident Saiful said the rain had brought some relief after several days of oppressive heat.
“After days of hot weather, this rain has brought some comfort. However, the sudden heavy rain has also caused some difficulties for people travelling on the roads,” he said.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas, which may bring squally weather to the maritime ports, the north Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
As a result, the authorities have advised Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to keep local cautionary signal No. 3 hoisted.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have also been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office Abdul Hannan confirmed the weather development.
