Health experts say various food items, such as potato chips and fried chicken, available in the market are mixed with taste salt, and excessive consumption of such items may weaken the nervous system.

According to medical practitioners’ views, regular consumption of foodstuffs laced with tasting salt, which is a chemical substance, may even cause Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s diseases.

Dr ABM Faroque, a noted pharmacologist and professor in the pharmacology department at Dhaka University, said the generic name of tasting salt is monosodium glutamate. It is widely used in domestic and fast food, including Chinese food and different types of spices.

Those consuming tasting salt or monosodium glutamate may ultimately lose the sense of taste and become less attentive. Food other than “Chinese” may seem less tasty to them. They will also be unable to concentrate on various issues, he said

Such persons may get irritated very quickly. They cannot sleep well, as tasting salt affects the central nervous system of the human body, he added. Foods mixed with tasting salt should be avoided immediately, and everyone needs to be health conscious.
