Islamic Relief Bangladesh officially handed over permanent shelters constructed under the “Shelter, Livelihood, and WASH Facilities Improvement Project (SWIP)” to homeless and vulnerable families. Islamic Relief USA supports this initiative to build 50 permanent shelters across Moheshkhali and Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazilas.

By 2024, the construction of 25 shelters was complete. The right holders had already taken possession of ten shelters in Maheshkhali upazila.

Today, the remaining 15 shelters in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila were officially handed over. Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, and Sharmin Sultana, the Assistant Land Commissioner, attended the handover ceremony. They inspected the shelters and handed them over to the right holders.

Each shelter, designed according to government-approved standards, has a total area of 36.50 square meters and includes two living rooms, a veranda, a kitchen, and a bathroom.

These shelters have provided safe shelter and rehabilitation opportunities to 43 individuals from 10 families in Moheshkhali and 69 from 15 families in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila.
