A high-level delegation led by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Dr Akihiko Tanaka visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
The delegation arrived at the camps at around 10:00 am to observe the ongoing humanitarian response.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed humanitarian activities and exchanged views with officials of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), government representatives and development partners.
The RRRC said the visit would further strengthen the long-standing partnership between the Bangladesh government and JICA in providing humanitarian assistance and promoting sustainable development for the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) and the local host communities.
According to the RRRC, JICA has invested about $332 million in Cox’s Bazar since 2012 through loans, grants and technical assistance in a wide range of sectors, including local government, healthcare, disaster risk management, education, livelihoods, fisheries, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and urban development.
