International Tea Day Special
On this International Tea Day, we’re reminded of the deep-rooted bond between Bengalis and tea. One man who embodies this connection is 60-year-old Khalilur Rahman, who has been selling tea on the streets of Cox’s Bazar for the past 27 years.
Khalilur walks through the neighborhoods with a kettle, offering cups of strong black tea. The photo captures him in action, serving tea with the same dedication that has sustained his five-member family for nearly three decades.
“I sell tea to everyone—from little kids to the elderly—every day,” he said. “But I didn’t know today was World Tea Day. It feels good to know!”
Whether it’s summer, monsoon, or winter, Khalilur has never missed a day. Selling tea on foot isn’t just a job; it’s his life’s work.
