The Local Government Division has approved the acquisition of 1.8947 acres of land to build approach roads for a bridge under construction over the Bhoruakhali canal in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila.
The approval was issued through a notification dated October 15 by the Development-2 section of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. It cancels an earlier administrative approval issued on March 11, 2021, to acquire 3.1567 acres.
The bridge is being constructed under the Local Government Engineering Department’s (LGED) project titled “Construction of Important Bridges on Rural Roads (First Revised)”. It is located on the Rashidnagar RHD–Khurushkul growth centre road, via Bhoruakhali Bazar, at chainage 4,700 metres.
The 392-metre prestressed concrete girder bridge bears identification number 422242004. Land acquisition is required to construct its approach roads.
According to the notification, complications arose over land plot numbers and the area required during the acquisition process. LGED subsequently requested a revision of the approved area from 3.1567 acres to 1.8947 acres.
LGED sent a letter to the Local Government Division on May 21, 2026, seeking approval of the revised area. In response, the previous order was cancelled and fresh administrative approval was granted for the smaller area.
The order, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary ABM Ariful Islam of the Development-2 section, was circulated to the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner, LGED’s Chief Engineer, the Project Director, and the Executive Engineer in Cox’s Bazar, among other officials.
