Local authorities and the Meteorological Department have warned salt farmers in Cox’s Bazar district that a low-pressure system could develop over the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists predict that the system may form over the southern Bay, potentially bringing rain and strong winds to coastal areas in the coming days. This could impact salt production zones, including Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Chakaria, Pekua, and Teknaf.
Salt farmers have been advised to harvest and store any mature salt by Wednesday, April 9, to prevent losses due to adverse weather conditions.
“If we receive timely warnings like this, we can take necessary precautions and protect our hard-earned yield,” said a local salt farmer.
Meanwhile, authorities have increased monitoring of salt fields and are actively disseminating information to farmers through field officers.
