Judge Mamunur Rashid, currently serving as Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Second Court, has taken charge as Acting District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar.
Outgoing Senior District and Sessions Judge Munshi Abdul Majid formally handed over responsibilities to him, in line with routine directives from the Law and Justice Division recently. Bedarul Alam, District Nazir of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court, confirmed the matter to the media.
A distinguished member of the 3rd batch of the Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS), Judge Mamunur Rashid began his judicial career on May 22, 2008, as a Judicial Magistrate in the Rajshahi Metropolitan Court.
Over the years, he has served in various capacities, including Senior Assistant Judge in Sherpur, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Gopalganj and Natore, Chief Judicial Magistrate in Madaripur, and most recently, as Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Second Court in Cox’s Bazar since November 2024.
He stood first in the Survey and Settlement Training Course among participants from BCS (Administration), BCS (Police), and Judicial Service cadres.
Judge Mamunur Rashid has also shown talent beyond the courtroom. His poems, short stories, and plays have been published in national dailies, magazines, and broadcast on radio since his school years. His short story collection Neeljal Diganta was published at this year’s Ekushey Book Fair. A versatile personality, he is also a national-level chess player.
Until a permanent District and Sessions Judge is appointed in Cox’s Bazar, Judge Mamunur Rashid will serve concurrently as Acting District and Sessions Judge alongside his current role in the Second Court, Nazir Bedarul Alam added.
Notably, the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs recently issued a notification (August 25) transferring Munshi Abdul Majid, the 18th Senior District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar, tothe Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.
