A stakeholder consultation meeting was held on Sunday at the district commissioner’s office conference hall to determine effective measures for resolving waterlogging issues in the municipality.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin presided over the meeting, emphasizing the need for proper planning, coordination, and well-structured initiatives to eliminate waterlogging. He assured that a sustainable action plan would be developed with all relevant stakeholders.
Chairman of the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority, Mohammad Salauddin, also spoke at the event. Representatives from government and non-government organizations, law enforcement agencies, municipal authorities, student groups, tourism professionals, and local business owners attended.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted that illegal encroachments on drainage systems are a significant cause of waterlogging. They pointed out that rainwater cannot drain efficiently due to these obstructions, flooding roads, residential areas, courtyards, shops, and commercial zones. They stressed the importance of collective efforts to tackle the issue effectively.
