Mushrooms are now cultivated in Cox’s Bazar. A small business named HAP Services has started this experimental farming project in the Kolatoli area of the city. They are nutritious and rich in health benefits.
Md. Fakhruddin, the owner of HAP Services, shared, “After receiving training in mushroom cultivation from Savar, I sourced the mushroom spawns (spores) from Dhaka. Various types of spawns are available, with 500-gram packs costing Tk25 and 800-gram packs priced at Tk35, excluding delivery and packaging charges.”
He also said that after purchasing the spawns, he rented a small space in Cox’s Bazar to start mushroom farming. The process involves making holes on both sides of the spawn packet and watering it thrice daily for about 15 days. Soon, mushrooms start sprouting from the packets.
He also said that he sells fresh mushrooms at Tk800 per kilogram. Currently, he is working with 70 packets and selling the yield. While the profits are still modest, he believes expanding the farm will lead to better harvests and higher returns.
