The observance of Nazrul Year 2026–27 was inaugurated simultaneously across Bangladesh, including Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday.
Tarique Rahman formally announced the inauguration through a video conference from the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat.
The programme in Cox’s Bazar was attended by cultural personalities, Nazrul scholars, musicians, representatives of political parties, educational institutions, government and private organisations, journalists and members of various professional groups.
After unveiling a commemorative postage stamp and the official logo, the prime minister remarked that National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam had embraced the entirety of Bangladesh in his heart, and that the people of the country had, in turn, cherished him deeply.
He also noted that the poet had first visited Trishal during his youth and said the government had directed the relevant authorities to examine the possibility of declaring the poet’s memory-associated sites in Trishal as a Nazrul memorial area.
After the national inauguration, the Cox’s Bazar district administration held a brief discussion meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan.
Officials said the district administration would organise a series of programmes throughout the year to mark Nazrul Year, including a three-day schedule featuring cultural events and competitions.
Among those who addressed the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidul Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shamim Kabir, educationist Someshwar Chakrabarty, Cox’s Bazar Press Club president Mahbubur Rahman and former district education officer Nasir Uddin.
District Education Officer Golam Mostafa, Cox’s Bazar district BNP office secretary Yusuf Badri, Cox’s Bazar Press Club general secretary Mumtaz Uddin Bahari, joint general secretary Ekram Chowdhury Tipu, district Sramik Dal president Rafiqul Islam, district JASAS president Nasir Uddin and representatives of government agencies, private organisations and cultural bodies were also present.
