André Carstens, Head of Mission of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, met with Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, at her office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both parties discussed avenues for collaboration in addressing Bangladesh’s pressing environmental challenges and water management priorities.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted the critical need for assistance in mitigating saline intrusion in coastal areas, severely affecting local livelihoods. She also emphasized the importance of resolving waterlogging issues in regions like Bhabodaho and Bil Dakatia while seeking support for river dredging and cleanup initiatives.
The Netherlands has been a longstanding partner in addressing our environmental challenges. Their expertise can significantly contribute to achieving our national goals, she stated.
André Carstens reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s environmental and water management efforts. The Netherlands is ready to cooperate in all the priority areas the Government of Bangladesh identified. Effective collaboration is essential for implementing the Bangladesh Delta Plan, he said.
Both parties agreed to enhance collaboration in these key areas to build resilience against climate change and promote sustainable environmental management.
