International Mother Language Day 2025 was observed at the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

A gathering was held on Friday (February 21) at Block C of Camp 9 in Palongkhali Union to mark the occasion.

The event began with a tribute to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement. Religious leaders, teachers, youth activists, and Rohingya community leaders addressed the assembly, reflecting on the significance of language and identity.

Speaking at the event, Maulana Mohammad Saleh emphasized the importance of protecting linguistic heritage. “We have our own language and culture. We speak in Rohingya, and it is our duty to ensure that future generations preserve our linguistic traditions,” he said.

Rohingya leader Dil Mohammad expressed deep appreciation for Bangladesh’s humanitarian support. “We are grateful to Bangladesh. It is crucial to maintain peace and unity in the camps. However, our true home is Arakan, and we long to return there,” he stated.

The gathering, organized by the Rohingya National Education Board, saw the participation of thousands of Rohingya refugees from various camps, reaffirming their commitment to preserving their language while hoping for a future in their homeland.
