Marking International Human Rights Day, the Center for Environment, Human Rights, and Development Forum (CEHRDF) organized an open forum on Tuesday (December 10) at the Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar premises.
The forum featured discussions on global and national human rights issues, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the protection of human rights, modern welfare states, democratic values, social justice, and an inclusive, dignified society. Participants also addressed political empowerment, economic rights, and decolonization.
Presiding over the event, CEHRDF Chief Executive Md. Elias Mia emphasized the urgent need for human rights advocacy amid global crises. In his keynote address, Professor Abul Mansur, Head of the Department of Political Science at Cox’s Bazar Government College, criticized state failures in ensuring border security and curbing extrajudicial killings, labeling such acts as severe violations of human rights. “The state must take full responsibility for these inhumane practices,” he asserted.
Human rights activists Kalimullah and Kamal Uddin delivered special remarks. Abdul Mannan Rana, Deputy Chief Leader (LDS) and Open Forum Implementation Committee Coordinator gave the welcome speech. Ruhul Amin, Deputy Chief Coordinator (SOS) and Member Secretary of the Implementation Committee, moderated the event.
