Cox’s Bazar, the country’s prime tourist destination, faces severe environmental pollution as its waterbodies and canals are choked with waste. Plastic, polythene, and household garbage have accumulated in drains and canals across the city, causing waterlogging and an unbearable stench, making life miserable for residents.

Locals blame poor waste management and authorities’ negligence for the situation. Years of uncleaned drainage and canal systems have severely disrupted water flow, leading to stagnant and polluted water.

Environmental experts warn that if immediate action is not taken, waterlogging will worsen, and the health risks associated with contamination will escalate. They have urged the authorities to implement strict measures to address the crisis.

While long-term planning is necessary for improving waste management, experts believe a sustainable solution will remain out of reach without raising awareness and strictly enforcing waste disposal regulations.
