Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday visited Dulahazara Safari Park in Cox’s Bazar as part of his daylong official tour of the district.
The prime minister was accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, during the visit.
Upon arrival at the safari park, Rahman planted a sapling of a cannonball tree (Nagalingam) in front of the main entrance. He later signed the park’s visitors’ book. Dr Zubaida Rahman also signed the commemorative register.
The prime minister was received at the park by Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo and State Minister Sheik Faridul Islam.
Earlier in the morning, Rahman arrived in Cox’s Bazar on his first official visit to the district since assuming office as prime minister.
After landing at Cox’s Bazar Airport, he travelled to PMkhali, where he inaugurated the re-excavation of the historic Patli Canal, a project associated with the legacy of former president Ziaur Rahman.
According to officials, the prime minister later travelled to Dulahazara Safari Park accompanied by his spouse and other members of the delegation.
Thousands of local residents and party activists gathered at various points along the route to greet the prime minister, waving and showering him with flower petals as his motorcade passed.
The safari park visit was one of several engagements included in Rahman’s daylong itinerary in Cox’s Bazar, which also featured development, environmental, and public outreach programmes.
