A farmer named Rahmat Ullah has successfully cultivated pointed gourd (potol) in Cox’s Bazar, which he claimed for the first time in the district. With financial support from PKSF and assistance from IDF, he embarked on this venture in Maizpara, PMkhali Union, under Sadar Upazila.
Rahmat Ullah expressed his excitement about the achievement, stating that he cultivated pointed gourd on 30 decimals of land with the IDF’s support. As the harvesting phase begins, he is selling his produce at a lucrative price. Due to the low supply, the vegetable is fetching a high rate, ranging between Tk70 and Tk80 per kilogram.
IDF Cox’s Bazar Assistant Agriculture Officer Sakhawat Hossain highlighted that pointed gourd was previously not cultivated in the district. Seeing Rahmat Ullah’s success, neighboring farmers are showing interest, which could lead to a rise in pointed gourd farming.
Meanwhile, IDF Agriculture Development Officer Azmarul Haque mentioned that farmers are being trained in cultivation techniques through hands-on demonstrations, and these training programs will continue to support agricultural expansion in the region.
